Message from Tara Koch, the outgoing past president:
“An integral part of what we do in the AIHA UT Local Section involves volunteer services to pre-professionals and our existing membership. There are many opportunities for us all to get involved in these efforts. Networking activities are just one way to provide our students and early-career health and safety professionals with opportunities to meet mid-career and senior professionals to facilitate information exchange and mentoring.
Having helped to pioneer and drive this effort over the past several years, our networking socials (which typically involve meeting at a restaurant or pub, making introductions and discussing areas of passion or uncertainty in our profession), have been extremely meaningful to the membership and personally rewarding. I too have benefited greatly from these events, both as a student and as a professional. I continue to reflect on many invaluable connections and conversations that have helped me grow in my own career.
I would encourage you to look at all our volunteer opportunities to find an area that speaks the loudest to you, where you can make a difference. These opportunities lie in member groupings (broadly referred to as Volunteer Committees) and may take the form of technical or administrative committees and other project or work teams. AIHA-UT is committed to supporting such events and opportunities where we can volunteer our time, expand our capabilities and provide purposeful experiences for our friends and colleagues.”
